Looking for Sustainability ideas

I thought I find a way to keep costs down while still trying to stay eco-friendly. Trying to keep striving for sustainability. This a record of that journey.

Love it Free Glass Straws

It was one of those nights, reading the stupid stuff on Facebook, scrolling down kinda in a burr of half reading it half not. I then see a magazine I liked... that had a post on Glass Dharma giving away free straws!

Be one of the first 1000 people in April to write an essay Titled : “I love my glass straws”.

Here is my essay:
I love Glass Straws Because

I love glass straws! It's a very creative idea to help reduce and reuse. How can you beat that? You have 2 out of the eco-friendly three Rs. And knowing the fact you can't recycle the plastic straw then it is a win win product. Walking the walk talking the talk of being green. NO more of these plastic straws and those static charged paper liners. Plus supporting a green company.

Who could not love glass straws! It is a reward to our littlest environmentalists that do the right thing but keeps fun in reusing. Plus the fun factor is also important to keep the young mind interested in keeping up recycling, reducing and reusing! A perfect gift for your eco-friendly person on your gift list. Hint hint, to all my family reading this.... However my daughter shouldn't be reading this... I know she likes the color straws.... Even as a grown women I know she would love these. I know her mom does!!!

So head over to Glass Dharma and get your free glass straw!!

Hide and seek Give away!!

I got a Hidden Recycler from Rubbermaid to review and to host a give a way!!

It was very easy to put together.  Plus I love the fact there was a piece of paper that showed you the size and how to attach to the cabinet.  OK I found this paper after I found out that it didn't fit!!
The dimensions are 12.7” W x 9.9” D x 17” H. It was a little to big for my cabinets but it did fit on the outside of the one door... It was perfect... the door that has the trash on the inside.. recycles on the outside... think it will remind them to recycle??? LOL I hope...

This is a win win product as a crunchy mom. The hidden recycler is made of recycled materials ( 65% post-consumer resin) and can be recycled after use...   It will hold around 36 cans and 8 pounds of materials! Big enough for gallon cider jugs.   It has a lid, so you don't have to look at the recycling mess in the can.

You can machine wash the bag on the cold gentle cycle  if it gets too gross to wipe down with a damp cloth.  But do not throw in the dryer, line dry.

You can remove the cloth bag part and empty the bag into your recycling can or center.  It has a carry handle that makes that so easy.  I live in a city that has curb side collection for recycling so I have a city property rolling container. On habit I line the bag with a blue bag but you don't have to. The bag is also lined to help be leak proof .

PLUS for the renters you don't have to drill anything to attach the bag to your door.  You just place them as the directions show and hook them over the door.  No holes.  Just metal hooks.

So You can win one also!!

The suggested retail price of the  Hidden Recycler is $15.99.  But you know how it is some store may change the price because they can set the price.

I am sorry but this give away is only open for USA and Canada.

So to win just leave a comment on what you like best about the  Hidden Recycler. Extra points if you are a follower. (leave a second comment to remind me) Oh yea also leave in your comment how I can let you know if you won!! Do the email _at_ your email provider to keep the bots away.

You have until April 2nd  to enter!

I will select a winner by a random number generator.

Good luck!

I was not paid for this post just received a free hidden recycler for review.  This is  my opinion.  Facts are given from Rubbermaid (size and materials) Have to add the  Legal jargin you know....

A Clean Giveaway!!

Giveaway closed..........
Congratulations to Michele P!

So one night I was just losing time and surfing the web. I found myself at this Rubbermaid Reveal Spray Mop site.. it was getting late....

I thought wow how great is that mop.... it's a wet mop that you can refill PLUS you can use your own homemade cleaners. You have a removable cleaning pad that made of microfiber and you could wash it.... Saving you more money...  I wanted one! Plus it is Rubbermaid it is well built.

I have one of those other mops that you need to buy cleaning wipes for. The wipes that are too strong smelling for me.. Yea I know you can green them... I have used old towels or washcloths instead of the cleaning cloths . yea that worked but you know part of me wanted someone to come up with a great mop to make life easier. Where I didn't need to wring out the mop or  washcloth and I  could still use my own homemade cleaners!

The cleaning fairies that live in my house somehow got the wonderful  people at Rubbermaid  to email me like a couple days later and ask if I would like to review the new Rubbermaid Reveal Spray Mop. Well I answered YES!! Yes!! I am drooling!  I want to...Pick me.. pick me...

So when I got my mop I was on the way to work... LOL I was upset I couldn't use it right away.... But I did put it together that night...... The ones that are shipped for reviews and winners of the giveaways have the mop handle in 2 pieces. The ones that are being sold at the stores starting  in August are one piece.

SO at first it was different then that other spray mop. The spray isn't as close to the floor.  I had the mop at an angle so it did spray pretty far!! LOL. But that worked to my advance in the bathroom. It cleaned so well!  I have a corner that I use to have to scrub clean with a cloth after mopping; but not with the Reveal! Hey something that is easy to use and I don't have to do extra cleaning to finish the job!

Plus no more opps I forgot to get to buy the  cloths for that other spray mop and I have a mess to clean up!! All you have to do is use 2 tablespoons of your favorite eco-friendly cleaner... and hot water. Or make your own cleaner by adding things like vinegar, lemon juice,  baking soda, borax or dish-washing soap.  Please follow all manufacture recommendations when choosing products to clean your floor.  For scented cleaners add a few drops of lemon juice or your favorite scented oil to the mix!

I wasn't sure about the microfiber but I was thinking $$ Store microfiber cleaning cloth...  I hate the way those cloths feels... But I do have a allergy to polyester. But the cleaning pad is like a thick bathroom rug, but very light feeling. It is very thin fibers tightly woven to help soak up water.  I had a spot of dried  up yuck that I poured some of the cleaner (before I put the bottle on the mop) on the yuck to help soften it. The microfiber cloth picked up the mess  like it was nothing.  I also removed the pad thinking that it would drip maybe a little..... nope it wasn't going to drip at all! And really had fun trying to get it to drip....Shaking the pad, swinging around and playing catch and no drips. SO afterward you just throw it in the washer with towels. SO easy to clean.

Save money, the environment, your floors and your back.  I know you want one..    So today is my Birthday but I am going to share my present.... NO you get your own  Reveal!
However Rubbermaid can only ship to the U.S. and Canada. Please note that Canadian winners might get charged C.O.D. Rubbermaid cannot do anything to refund the charges.

My first giveaway! Rubbermaid takealongs!

The nice people Erin, Jim and Lauren at Rubbermaid blog Adventures in Organization are giving me a chance to host a giveaway!
When the package arrived we opened right away. As you see this is the box it came in. The green in me thought that was a big box for the little items but NO Styrofoam peanuts so they got bonus points for that. Plus Miss Princess thought they sent it to her for a nice bed.... She also had to check out the blue ice fun shape... She licked it and rubbed up against it so I think she likes it.. Really she followed it from the box to the table. Silly cat!

I received a package of 4 TakeAlong squares. The new quick Clik seal makes sure the lids snaps into place. We sealed by pushing in the middle of the lid. They are dishwasher and freezer safe. I tried the freezer. Nice it didn't crack after I took it out and tried to get the food out of it like some container have done to me. At first I thought I over filled them, so I used less the next time and still had the stupid thing crack. Can't freeze things in something cracked.
Rubbermaid will tell you that they are microwave safe but I don't like to microwave any food. Goodhousekeeping did testing on all the plastic containers and none has large amount of phthalates or BPA so I do use them for food storage just don't microwave food in them, I tend to heat the contents to high and melt the package....... But for testing I put some hot tomato sauce in one. It did not stain the container at all. I thought it would melt and stain. It was straight from the stove bubbling hot.

The blue ice fun shape lasted so long! We have used the block blue ice for our lunch bags. Yes most of us who live here, including me take our lunch. Sometimes when I have a short day I take a snack and a drink and got smaller ice packs, you know the ones that look like a pop cap or something like that. They don't last long. I end up with a tepid drink. So I thought this small ice pack isn't going to last the 6 hours before lunch, well it did and was still cool to the touch after 8 hours. The monkey was so cute, Rubbermaid also have a frog and football shapes. Of course the daughter was upset at the time I got the package that she didn't get the football too, seeing how she was excited about the Brown's game on that night and her boyfriend coming over.... but she loves the monkey shape too. Then we tried the container out for his monster sandwich.. turkey, ham, pepperjack cheese, lettuce, tomato, pepper slice, onion and Italian dressing. IT fit! Without smashing the bread down.

Rubbermaid is giving one lucky person from this blog a 4 pack of Takealong square containers and one blue ice fun shape Plus the marker for notes to your child. I know my daughter works with younger kids and they have to mark their containers. They have to mark everything they bring in their lunch box. This was handy to have. Rubbermaid was thinking for notes and we thought before reading the letter, to mark containers for school or work...... LOL
this giveaway will end on September 19 at 1:00 AM EST
